Frederick Bouchardy, the founder of the Brooklyn-based candle atelier Joya, commissioned design legend Seymour Chwast to design a limited edition scent enclosed in a handpainted porcelain cup that can be used long after the candle has been burned through.
Chwast’s inspiration was the portrait of a solitary artist: Moonlight and warm light on a worn drafting table, pencil shavings, and smudged sketches.
The scent is subtle, luxurious, persistent, and present. All heart and base notes, no top. Texas Cedarwood, tobacco, red juniper, vetiver, oakmoss, dry and sheer ambers, frankincense, chalk dust, musk, and suede.
