A fun mini puzzle featuring Osaka Railways, c. 1935, by Toyonosuke Kurozumi.
This poster exemplifies how Japanese graphic designers embraced and synthesized Art Deco aesthetics in the 1930s. The geometric minimalism takes from European modernism, but the flattened perspective and pastel colors are reminiscent of Japanese ukiyo-e (woodblock) prints. The poster advertised train routes from Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe to the Ise Grand Shrine, one of the most important sites in the Shinto faith.
Mini puzzle and backing card measure 6 x 4 inches. 150 pieces. Ages 3 and up.
