An oversized kiss-cut vinyl sticker featuring a detail of Jim Kweskin Jug Band, 1966, by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley.
A particularly American phenomenon, the psychedelic style (1966–72) emerged on the West Coast and quickly became a signifier of youth counterculture. Inspired by the use of hallucinogens, the designs combine contrasting colors with nearly illegible, swirling text. Many of psychedelic poster designers drew on Art Nouveau and Victorian motifs, including this riff on Alphonse Mucha's Job, 1896, which advertises cigarette rolling papers.
Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelly updated Mucha's muse with lime green hair and fuchsia skin to promote a performance by the folk and blues revival musician Jim Kweskin at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.
