Charles Allan Gilbert was an American illustrator known for drawing, All Is Vanity, which drew from the centuries-old memento mori or vanitas tradition. The drawing uses a double image or visual pun which shows a woman admiring herself in a mirror at her vanity. From a distance the image becomes a human skull.
