This poster was created for Poster House’s exhibition 20/20 Insight: Posters from the 2017 Women’s March by artist and designer Michele Washington.
The Women’s March held on January 21, 2017, in cities across the United States and around the globe brought together people of all stripes for a massive demonstration in response to the election and inauguration of President Donald J. Trump. Today’s political demonstrators arm themselves with symbols from poster history, borrowing the power of their ideology while crafting new meaning. Our exhibition 20/20 Insight: Posters from the 2017 Women's March looks at this phenomenon within this larger context, both to understand what came before and to encourage participation in the future of our democracy.
